Research and Planning: Double page spread, final idea

I want to have an interview in my double page spread but I am going to now interview a band instead of a solo artist.

As it is a pop magazine and will be aimed at an audience of 12 - 16 year olds, the structure is not going to be very formal and not very serious questions.

Here are some questions I want to ask:
  • What inspired you to start a band?
  • Who is your biggest inspiration in the music industry?
  • Who is your closest famous friend?
  • Do you have alot of time to spead with the family, or is it hard work being famous?
  • When did you start singing?
  • When was your first crush?
  • Who is your crush at the moment?
  • How did you 2 become friends?
  • Who takes the longest to get ready?
  • Whos was the best celeb party you have been to?
  • What kind of boys do you like?
Theses are the questions I am going to use on my double page spread.

Research and Planning: Audience feedback

I took my photographs for my double page spread, but I wanted to know what people though about them.  I went round and asked people what they thought and this is what they said:

  • Need a fresher face model.
  • Doesn't look pop, looks more indie.
  • Would look okay if using them in content page and not double page spread.
  • Would be better if you had a double page spread on a band, rather than a solo artist.
I am now going to use my pictures for the content page and use 2 girls as a band for my double page spread.

On the front cover, there is going to be a picture of my model who is going to have a double page spread about him. The model is going to be called Sam and his solo artist name is going to be Pablo.  This is going to be my picture I am going to use on my front cover.
Also on my front cover I am going to have stories about Pablo and my other solo singers which will be photographed on the contents page.

Content page
In my content page I am going to use 4 pictures on it, I am going to have one main picture of my girl band and 2 small pictures of Pablo and my other solo artist.

Double page spread
My double page spread is going to be on Pablo and him becoming famous.  My copy on the double page spread is going to be a interview to him.  I am going to have one main picture of him sat on his car.   I am then going to have a small picture of him close up and a little fact file about him.  I am also going to another small picture of him with his guitar.

Research and Planning: Double page spread draft 1

On this blog I am going to talk about my double page spread.
I want to have an interview on my double page spread, as from my questionnaire I found out that magazine readers like to hear interview of stars.

Here are some interview questions I might ask:

  • What inspired you to become a pop star?
  • Who is your biggest inspiration?
  • What was your first concert you went to?
  • Who is your closest famous friend?
  • Who would you love to make a song with?
  • What is your favorite part of being famous?
  • When is your new album out?
  • What should we be expected to see from the new album?
  • What do you want to achieve in the next two years?
  •  I heard that you got asked to join a boy band, how come you decided to become a solo artist?
  • Do you miss life before becoming famous?
Here some questions I might ask my model.

Research and Planning: Double page spread story ideas.

I am going to do the double page spread on the girl group, which will be on the front cover of my magazine.

Research and Planning: Weather forecast

To take my pictures I need to know what the weather is going to be like and which day is going to be the best day to take them.  I have been on BBC and found the weather forecast.

Research and Planning: Masthead idea

This is an idea for my masthead.  I like the font of the text as it looks fun and poppy.  I like the black outline as this makes the word stand out.  I like the colour of the text and i like the fading effect.

Research and Planning: Weekly Plan 22/11/10

In this week, I am going to try and complete:
- All my drafts of my music magazine and import them onto a blog.
- Write a draft script to my double page spread.
- Take pictures of my models using their costumes and props.
- Start to use photoshop to make my front cover.

Research and Planning: Test shots

I don't like this test shot becasue you can not see most of his face.

I dont like this shot because it is too far away, I think it would look better as a medium long shot instead of a extreme long shot.

I like this shot because of the low angle, I think it would look better if there wasn't as much background, it would look better if it was infront of a brick wall.

I don't like this shot as you can not see hsi face at all, I like the high angle but maybe not as high.

I like this shot because it shows the models emotion and shows she is happy. I like the long shot as you can see all her body.

I like this shot because It's a typical pose shown. I like the medium long shot use and eye level to make her appealing to the audience.

I dont like this shot, as there is too much going on in the picture. I also think I am going to use this shot with the boy band, so I cant repeat it again.

I like this shot for the boy band again, I like the extreme shot and the low angle of the camera.

Research and Planning: Potential models

On this blog i am going to talk about my potential models. I am also going to uploads photos of my potential models.
I am not going to use this model, becasue she looks to rocky with her dark eyes and choppy hair cut. She would not be ideal for the genre of magazine.

I am not going to use this model because she looks more thertre singer than pop singer.

I am going to use her as one of my models, because she look poppy and is the right age for the magazine audience.

I am going to use this as one of my models because she is the right age for my genre of magazine and looks poppy.

I am going to use him as a model, because he is look like someone out of a boy band and is the right age for the magazine.

I am not going to use this model.

I am going to use him as a model because he is the right age for the genre of music and he looks like someone who would be in a boy band.

Research and Planning: Location ideas.

On this blog I am going to talk about what locations I might use.

Green room
I am thinking about using the green room, because it is good for a plain background and easy if I want to cut the background out, but in another case, it is good to use as I want to have my solo artist recording a song and the green room as all the microphones and headphones in the room and it looks like a typical recording studio.

Steps at college
I am thinking about using this location as it would make the pictures look good with a good background.  It is also in college aswell as my models so it would be  easy to get them there and if I need to re do photo's they would be able to.

Victoria park
I am thinking about going to Victoria park in Denton as it has got a bandstand and it is close to my home, so that would reduce traveling costs. I also think it would be a good idea as a bandstand will look like a gig. It also gives an outdoorsy feeling.

Alley
I am thinking about going to an ally, because it is a good place to take to take pictures because it is quiet and wont get any interruptions,  it is also good as I want a brick wall as a background.

Research and Planning: Artist Appearance

As I am doing a pop magazine I am going to find it hard to find the right type of people for my models, so I am going to look at other pop artists that are round now. Some of the artists I am going to look at are: Pixie lott, JLS, katy perry, The Saturdays and others.

JLS

JLS is a pop band which was established last year on the tv programme The X -factor. AS you can see the band has a colourful background but they are wearing grey and whites. They do this to make them appeal to both pop and indie fans. The picture is a extreme long shot and the models are looking as if they have an attitude to appeal to the audience. They have no props in the picture.

The Saturdays.

In contrast to JLS, The Saturdays wear bright clothes and have a simplistic background to stand out. They are all smiling to look appealing to the audience. The picture is an extreme long shot and has no props in it.
Pixie Lott
This is a picture of Pixee Lott and she is wearing bright clothing and the background is busy. She is smiling to appeal to the audience. The picture is a medium long shot and has no props.

Research and Planning: Props and costumes

In this blog I am going to talk about the props and costumes I am going to use.

Front cover
Girl group - Flowery dresses and black cardigan, straight hair down.

content page
Solo Artist - Male, black coat and black jeans
Girl group - Same dresses as on front cover

Double page spread
Girl group - Same dresses and steps to sit on.

Research and Planning: Equipment and software

In this blog I am going to talk about the equipment and software I am going to use to make my music magazine.

I am going to the Apple Mac which has got Photoshop and Indesign on. I am also going to be using digital cameras and camcorders to take my pictures and video my locations i am going to use.
